Daena in chitonium armour

This is a rendering of Sor-Hahn's sweetheart in her new chitonium (organic) armour. The armour is actually a symbiotic organism that could be ordered to appear and disappear anytime, anywhere, by the wearer/host. Daena got it from Xefaer, during the time he kidnapped and mentally tortured her. Also note that Daena is wielding her hereditary weapons, the Seri Jentayu (blue) and Seri Garuda (red).

Red Angel of the Vanguard

This is Dardania, commander of the Crimson Vanguard of the Sanctuary. She is portrayed in her 'human' form (compared to 'Milya in her 'angelic' form). The weapon you see tucked into her belt is a keris (a really large one). More details on her in the latest addition of the Chronicles!

Well, it's actually not armour. The actual material is a long piece of cloth wound tightly around her stomach and chest.

Dilla

This is the third in a series of my most recent digital works. This is a fantasy piece, not having any real connections with the Malay world... The costume was based on that of one of the indegenous tribes in Borneo (I cannot say which)... See any similarities between Dilla and any of the other works here? Note to the Elfwood Moderators: This piece was created using photos from my own collection - no copyright issues here... This is an ORIGINAL work.

Your use of lighting has given this work an interesting illusion, i.e. from far away she is in focus. From closer up, she becomes a little fuzzy. Good work. The Duel

As the title suggests, this was the deadly duel between Daena and Rian, which very nearly resulted in the latter's demise, if it wasn't for her brother. This is quite a new concept for me, as I usually draw things first and make up a story later... Perhaps I just wanted to give some picture of what it was like!

This is a picture of Faryna, a warrior in one of my unpublished, untitled short stories. She is a cavalry commander and is armed with a lethal battleaxe. She has light armour on, consisting of chainmail and plate armour.

Here they are, the Comanders of the Legion of the Wolf. Standing, back row: Irkus, Myaz, Fay'zr and Nifarr. Middle row: Suzerain, Daena and Sor-Hahn. Sitting in front are Aesha and Rian, who is seen leaning on her brother's lap. This pic was 'taken' during the Sor-Hahn's party, the night Daena disappeared.

This is another character from Faryna's world. She's actually a demigod, but she doesn't know it yet. Her name is taken fron that of the Egyptian goddess Isis.

Katrin the Infiltrator

This is the latest view of Katrin. The last one didn't really work out, I guess. This one's more realistic, don't you think? As you all may have known, Katrin's a shape-shifting spy working for the Abode. She nearly wiped out the entire Legion of the Wolf... what more could you ask for?

Natural camouflage and outfit. She is a spy. And an assassin. The camouflage helps, and her face makes it easier for her - she doesn't need a mask! Anyway, if you would honour me by reading my story (The Maritulu Chronicles), she does not have much difficulty turning herself into anyone she desires.

She could be the next Solid Snake:) Do not worry, her mouth has not been erased. It's just a common feature of Infiltrators not to have mouths. Some of these are able to comunicate via telepathy, which eliminates the need for a mouth. How do they eat? Guess.

In Sweden were I live, swords with an hole trou the blade behind the tip like this one has ben used primarly for executions. Really? I didn't know that. Wonder what the hole was for? Anyway, 'Milya's sword was modelled after a legendary sword of Islamic origin, the sword Zulfaqar, which belonged to the Prophet Muhammad.

Mirinda is a character inspired by a model on the cover of a women's magazine. I wanted to give her some armour but I decided to keep her original clothes on. Maybe I'll come up with a picture of Mirinda in armour soon! I imagined her as a sleek and deadly assassin, who will work for the highest bidder.

Commander of the Light Cavalry

This is Myaz, another character from the Chronicles. She is the commander of Sor-Hahn's light cavalry. Note the handle of the weapon sticing out from behind her back. It's actually a spiked club known as the Ratnamira, Myaz' hereditary weapon.

Naga chulalongkorni

Well, this may look like your average serpentine dragon, but actually it is a Naga, literally huge serpent. Nagas were said to be royal guardians in local mythology, Siamese as well as Malay. (For those who are confused: Siam is the old name for Thailand, a country located just north of Malaysia) I got the inspiration from a photo of the Siamese Royal Barge (one of a few). The specimen was actually seven-headed, but I think that the other 6 identical heads will just fill the page and blot out details. I'll work on a full version later.

But I've read that other cultures sometimes change their appearance, such as this pic maybe? I think you did a great job, and it sure looks fearsome.

Princess II

Another version (sketch) of a Malay princess. She wears the traditional 'Cik Siti Wan Kembang' dress of Kelantanese origin. This dress comprised of two pieces of cloth; one wrapped around the hips, the other wrapped around the chest, then secured with a belt. A selendang or shawl draped the shoulders. This dress was never worn in the presence of men (in court).

Here she is again... in her new suit of armour. What more do I need to say about Rian... I guess by now everyone knows about her. The sword is a ceremonial one that belongs to her brother, Sor-Hahn. She is his Bearer of the Sword.

Well, I finally made it... Rian's portrait. I know that the shoulders may seem a bit off, but that's what you get when I concentrate on the face. Anyway, she's wearing the transluscent blue dress she often wears for formal occasions. Note the armoured chest plate.

Saichania

This is one of the few occurances where I get to create a creature. I am not sure where this thing fits, but it's an aquatic lobster-like crustacean without eyes but with armour comparable to steel. The Saichania sp. has 15 pairs of legs and a tailblade that could cut through almost anything. I may put this guy somewhere in the Chronicles, soon. p/s I decided to draw this one in biological-drawing style... just to make it look a little scientific!

Carcharinodon

Carcharinodon literally means 'shark tooth' (or at least I think it does!). The idea to create this monster came from Troy Megli's request for a cross between a dragon and a manta ray. I decided to use a stingray instead, with the head similar to that of a shark. I tried to minimize on the scales and spikes to make this a fast and active predator, not just some lumbering beast of the deep! (p/s do visit Troy's gallery: he's got some mighty interesting dragons!)

Cephalodactylus

The first (or is it second?) creature that I've come up with. Essentially a serpentine dragon, it became this 'thing'. Supposed to be a huge aquatic creature, the cephalodactylus ('head with fingers') was inspired by Troy Megli's 'Vermitherax II'.

I had this old line drawing of what I imagined Amemit, the Devourer of the Dead would look like. Then I was inspired to colour the drawing when I went through the Galleries last night. I did it with Photoshop. Well, this is what I came up with. A tribute to all those in the Field of Reeds! (Don't ask me what the glyhs mean, I didn't have time to write a proper one - sorry!)

Suzeraine

Suzeraine's one of the new characters for the Chronicles. She is the commander of the Light Infantry, framed by Katrin and nearly executed by Sor-Hahn himself! Quite tough times for a rooky, eh? Anyway, she will soon get her Shield of the Saint, the Inderasakti. The shield was supposed to be passed on to her, but Xefaer took possession of it.

Don't worry! I can take criticism, as long as they point out my mistakes and weaknesses. As for the feet, well, since that's the main commet on this one, maybe I'll fix it!

I really like the way you do the outfits on your characters, because you show a wide variety, from western to eastern style. The only thing I would critisize on this picture is the shading of her shield, it looks like it should be turned around the z-axis by 180 degrees. Shadows and highlighted areas should just be the opposite. Nevertheless a very cool character sketch!

May 23 2005	Alastair	As a reenactor and historian, I would make one observation for future reference - almost every shield you find will have its grips based in the center - this is both for balance on a practical side, and for aesthetics as your grip will have to be bolted through and will normally be incorporated into the surround for the boss - the round bit in the middle of the face of many shields. It is rare to find any grip like the one pictured, save on small wooden shields, and even then it would be centered for balance. Otherwise, a really nice picture. Hope that helps! This is a detail of yet another female warrior. She is holding a keris, a traditional Malay dagger (used to be a symbol of rank, and a deadly weapon!) She wears the usual tengkolok and sikap. And no, I'm not gonna risk colouring this one manually!

A srikandi is a female Malay warrior. Here she is portrayed as wearing the traditional shirt and pants together with a 'sikap' or outer shirt, sampin (waistcloth) and tengkolok (headcloth), She is also holding a keris, a traditional Malay dagger.

Since there was a comment on the details, here they are! What do you think? Obviously, the big one's the sword (Nagasari) and the smaller one's the dagger (Ratnawati).

Battle for the Sanctuary

This is another pic taken from the Chronicles. As you can see, Sor-Hahn is battling a Dark Knight of the Abode. This battle took place in the Sanctuary of Light, where Rian had first unleashed the deadly powers of the Lore of the Light.

My old Elfwood artwork

Hi there! As promised, I am clearing my Elfwood page of old images to make way for upcoming new ones. This blog will now become the permanent home for these "veteran" artworks, and I will also include the original text descriptions for each image.

I've also saved the various comments that have been put down on every pic. These comments and tips have been very helpful in my effort to improve on my art. A very warm "thank you" to all those who have submitted comments and views on my works...

Nonetheless, due to certain technical errors, some of these comments were lost. However, they shall remain always, in my heart.
